Relationship between Delayed Marriage, Sexual Frustration and Quality of Life Among Young Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the correlation of sexual frustration with quality of Life in young male and females of Sialkot, Pakistan. It was also explored how delayed marriage patterns were related with sexual frustration and gender differences in marital delay and sexual frustration.

Design: A Cross-Sectional survey design was used with convenient sample of 150 adults (75 males and 75 females) aged from 18 to 45 years from Colleges/Universities of Sialkot. All the participants were administered the Multidimensional Sexual Self-Concept Questionnaire (MSSCQ; 1995) and the WHOQOL-Brief (Field Trial Version). Data analysis applied consisted of descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and the independent samples t-test.

Results: Findings showed that quality of life is negatively correlated with sexual frustration, and delayed marriage was positively correlated with sexual frustration. There were also major gender disparities, with men indicating delayed marriage and sexual frustration, while females indicated high quality of life.

Conclusion: The findings suggest that delayed marriage is one of the significant factors which are linked to higher level of sexual frustration and low standard of living among the young adults. The results point to the importance of focusing on the role of psychosocial factors and the cultural context in both marriage delays and overall well-being.
